National Poem in a Pocket Day

April is Poetry month and April 26th was Poem in a Pocket Day. We have been reading and listening to many poems this month. We learned that some poems use rhymes, some use verbs, some use adjectives, and some use all three! We wrote our own poem to put in our pocket about an animal of our choice. We are all poets and we didn't know it!

We are Young Chefs!

Our trip to Young Chefs Academy was so much fun, we didn't want to leave! We learned, measured, watched yeast rise, colored, and ate! We did all this in the most colorful kitchen we have ever seen! Those breadsticks were delicious, I'm sure we will be making them again now that we have the recipe!

Celebrating 100 Days of Friendship and Learning

Today was our 100th day of school! Check out our awesome crowns! Coincidently, it was also Valentines Day. Love was in the air.. It was exciting to give and receive cards. We have been great friends towards each other this month and we earned our friendship rings! We had an exciting day with lots of sweet candy and friends.

February is Friendship Month!

February is a sweet month filled with love and candy! Since love is in the air, we will be celebrating "Friendship" in our class. We have had discussions about what makes a good friend. We have been talking about feelings and how to avoid hurting the feelings of others. We have all decided as a class, that everyone is much happier when everyone is kind. We learned that sometimes people can say or do things that hurt feelings. We decided the best thing to do is try to talk it out. If that does not work, we can simply just walk away or tell someone. We learned that we are much happier as a team and we will work hard to build our friendships through understanding and problem solving.

Teaching kindness, empathy and respect  can be done! It can be done through creating scenarios through Role-play with your child, creating positive conversations with your children, modeling kindness, rewarding kind acts through positive verbal reinforcement and acknowledgement, and of course through literature. Sometimes the words used can hurt other without knowing. Simply replace the words with kinder words. Remember...friendship is contagious!
